Om Sai

Two of my friends recently visited Shirdi to have Sai Darshan and had posted on Facebook about their visit, which triggered me to write this post.

My memories went back about thirty years ago when I visited Shirdi for the first time. I was working in Mumbai at that time. One of my colleagues requested me to accompany her to Shirdi as her sister had to undergo an operation the next day. I agreed and we booked tickets through a travel agent at a place called Dadar. The starting place was Dadar. We boarded the  bus in the evening and proceeded to Shirdi which would reach the next morning. But on our way, within one hour or so, the bus broke down and the driver said that bus cannot move and he will arrange alternate buses to all passengers. He stopped different buses going via Shirdi and got seats to all passengers. To our surprise, we got an air conditioned bus to Shirdi and we also started the journey happily as we got airconditioned bus which was a luxury during those days. Came early morning but not Shirdi ! Just few kilometers before Shirdi our bus met with an accident. The driver would have slept and hit a tree and I got glass pieces all over my body as I was sitting in a front seat. What to do now, we got down and looking for alternate transport to reach Shirdi. We found that there was jeep transport from that place to Shirdi similar to the share autos available in Chennai. To our luck, we got a jeep immediately and proceeded to Shirdi. There was a big relief after reaching Shirdi. We got freshened up and had very nice darshan of Baba. We also visited nearby places related to the life of Saibaba, viz., chavdi, dhuni, etc. There was no crowd like now and we could visit the temple and worship Baba many times as we wish. Now a days, thousands of people throng Shirdi to get HIS blessings.

After lunch we started back to Mumbai. But as our bus got broke down, we have to make our own arrangement for return journey. Since it was a Sunday, all private buses were booked and we went to check government buses. The bus stand was also crowded, but to our surprise there were only two seats available in a bus as if they are waiting for us. We took that bus and proceeded to Dadar. After reaching Dadar, I told my friend that let us inform the travel agent about the accident so that he will be aware. We went and informed him about the accident, explained how we reached and returned from Shirdi and now came the climax. After listening to what happened from us, that person returned the money paid by us without saying a single word.

I would have visited Shirdi about five to six times but, this is an unforgettable and memorable first trip to Shirdi. We travelled by air conditioned bus, saved our life from an accident, reached Shirdi as per the schedule without much wait for the alternate transport, got nice darshan, return journey was also peaceful and finally we got the money also back. My friend's sister's operation was successful and she is fine.

Teacher's Day - 05th September, 2021

After a long gap thought of sharing my memories on my Teachers.

The first teacher whom I remember was the teacher in my fifth standard. That time I was studying in R.C. Middle School, Melur, Madurai district. I did not understand the English lesson which was taught in the class. So I went to her home in the evening to get my doubts cleared as I could not wait till the next working day as the next day was a Sunday. She was so happy that her student came to her house seeking clarification, cleared my doubts well and mentioned it in the class also the next day.

The next set of teachers I remember was in American College Higher Secondary School, Tallakulam, Madurai where I did my schooling from eighth standard to plus two. Tamil teacher Mr. Natarajan Sir who used to sing Tamil poems in the class with raaga and give the meaning, another Tamil teacher Mr. Jayaram Gandhi Sir, I just used to listen to his teachings attentively in the class and no more further revisions are needed at home. He used to teach the lessons corelating the current affairs and political happenings with the subject, so the lessons become interesting and go very well in the minds of the students. I still remember these two Tamil teachers. Another teacher whom I cannot forget was Mr. Ramasamy Sir, who taught Mathematics. He used to teach so well, giving step by step explanations. I scored 93 marks in 10th standard public exam in Mathematics and that followed in plus two also just because of him only. A big salutation to him. Another Mr. Ramasamy Sir was there who used to take English subject. He was the one responsible for the change in spelling of my name from Das to Doss. Once there was a letter writing homework given to us. As usual, I wrote my name in from address as P. Kalidas, but he corrected it as Doss and said that it is the correct spelling. So, from that day onwards, my name became Kalidoss from Kalidas. Such an obedient student !!!

Next teacher whom I just cannot forget was Mr. Marthandan Thomas Sir. He used to take Chemistry in plus one and he was the class teacher too. Though I scored good marks in 10th standard, I found it very very difficult in 11th standard (plus one), because it was English medium and I was a Tamil medium student for the previous 10 years. The first monthly test came and I wrote something on the test papers. The day came when all teachers distributed the corrected mark sheets. No wonder, I had failed in all subjects and single digit marks out of 200 marks. Mr. Marthandan Thomas Sir also distributed Chemistry papers. I had scored zero (0) marks in that test and he told me that he gave grace quarter mark for fifty and two marks out of 200. He also told me that next time you must get good marks and any doubts I can go to him any time. But the problem was in understanding the subjects and writing in English, because all subjects were taught in English only. To overcome this, I made a plan. I borrowed Tamil medium books from my cousin who got married then after her plus one. I compared my English medium books and they were direct translation and it was laddu for me!! I put in hard work reading English medium books and Tamil medium books for their translation. Subsequently, I started scoring good marks in the following tests and it was a complete transformation from a Tamil medium boy to an English medium veteran. The realization made where I was standing in the class in studies and the motivation I got from Mr. Marthandan Thomas Sir at the beginning of the year were very important. He was such a nice and pleasant personality. He used to come to school in his Yezdi bike, the moment we hear his bike sound everyone would rush to the class and it would become quiet. Later on I came to know that he became the Head Master of the school and retired from service. Mr. Kalaimani Sir (Botony), Mr. Ramdas Sir (Zoology), Mr. Edison Sir (Physics) also helped in shaping me in my school days.

College life was another unforgettable one, I need to write a separate article for that.  During those three years period in BBA Department, Thiagarajar College, Madurai, we got unforgettable memories. Still we cherish our memories in our meets. We had very good teachers there also. Mr. Ranganathan (HOD), Mr. Arunachalam, Mr. R. Srinivasa Gopalan (popularly known as RSG Sir) and many visiting faculties. There were learnings as well as fun also, in the class and outside the class. All of them were very knowledgeable and helpful.

After my college days, I used to attend coaching classes wherever it is free of cost for writing competitive exams. One such class was conducted by TAMBRAS (Tamil Nadu Brahmin Association) for English in Thiru Nagar, Madurai. I got a brilliant teacher who taught me English from the basics starting from the structure of the sentence to entire grammar. Whatever little proper English I know and speak today is because of him only. Unforgettable teacher but unfortunately I do not remember his name now. But I remember him coming in Veshti, Jibba, Vibhudhi in his full forehead and mouth full of betel leaves and seeval with an ever smiling face. A big pranam and namaskar to him.

Department of Management Studies, Madurai Kamaraj University - where I studied MBA played a big role in shaping my thinking and personality. Dr. G.P. Rao (HOD), Dr. U.S. Rao, Dr. U.R. Rao (visiting faculty), Dr. Kathiresan and many more faculties played a vital role in developing the knowledge and the personality of the students. Dr. G.P. Rao who is the founder HOD of the department used to make everyone think in a different perspective. His classes will be attended by all students and thought provoking.

We receive knowledge and wisdom from teachers, people and things we come across in every walk of our life.

There are 24 gurus as narrated in one episode of The Uddhava Geetha which is given below.

"selected by my keen sense, from whom acquiring wisdom freely, I wander in the world…. The earth, air/breeze, sky, fire, the sun, pigeon, python, sea, moth, elephant, ant, fish, Pingala the courtesan, arrow-maker, infant/playful boy, the moon, honeybee, deer, bird of prey, maiden, serpent, spider, caterpillar and water are my twenty four preceptors.

So, let us learn and respect every TEACHER / GURU who we come across and remember on this TEACHER'S DAY.

The bright side of corona

We have seen an overview of Corona in my previous post. However, on the other hand, it had helped people to show off their hidden talents - cooking, singing, dancing, acting and what not. Further, learning through Internet has become the order of the day and everyone is moving towards this mode. Online classes for school and college students is a classic example for effective usage of internet. Now a days, location is not a barrier in selecting a school or a teacher for learning. Take the example of Yoga classes. A person in Kerala or Assam can select a yoga teacher in Chennai if he likes the curriculum of this yoga school in Chennai. There were some online quiz programmes for students, adults, etc. To mention a name here, QShala.com a leading website which is into quizzing had conducted family quiz also. We have seen many webinars (web seminars) by many organizations to explain about their products. Companies conducted even AGMs online. Spiritual discourse, chanting of mantras, bhajans, are also being conducted online these days.

Some people made use of this lock down period to enhance their qualifications and skills, joined courses useful to one's profession, developed hobbies like photography, gardening, cooking, etc. There are lot of opportunities this corona period has given to the people. There is a saying, 'Necessity is the mother of all inventions'. This is very true in this corona period. There are sufferings like loss of jobs, no business in service industry, etc., which made some people to think differently to generate income. Some people took up making of face masks, hand gloves, selling fruits ( there has been a spurt in sale of fruits and vegetables; amla has become hot selling fruit now a days!), etc. Some resorts converted their facilities to provide their services to the people who do work from home. Home delivery has become the order of the day for shops and business establishments of all sizes. At macro level some factories started mass production of  face masks, gloves, gowns.

This corona period has given ample time and opportunities to those who could think differently and creatively. Making use of the same is in the hands of the people. Let us see how many entrepreneurs emerge at the end of this corona period.

Corona - An Overview

Corona - Covid19 - This has turned down all activities across the globe. Economies have been collapsed. All activities in all countries have come to a standstill. It started from China, traveled to entire Europe, the USA, Asia and to all continents. There are lock downs, quarantines, treatments and finally so many deaths across the world. Still no vaccines to control or medicines to cure this pandemic as on date; but efforts are going on.

There are tensions across the border of the country also from the same source county of Corona virus i.e., China. India showed its strength and firmness which lead to the withdrawal of troop by China from the LAC; but still bi-lateral discussions are going on.

Kudos to the Tamil Nadu government for its efforts in controlling the pandemic. The number of tests done on the people, treating the +ve patients are very much commendable. They are also sanitizing the affected places, conducting medical camps, distribute Kabasura drink free of cost which is an extract of many herbs which give immunity. For the downtrodden people, the government distributed food free of cost. However, opposition parties try to make use of even this pandemic situation to their advantage; waiting for even a small slip by the government and trying to pull them down, eyeing on the forthcoming state assembly elections. There is always criticisms only and no appreciation even for good deeds by the government which is highly irritating.

People have a major role to play in controlling the virus. They should follow guidelines issued by the government; wear face mask, maintain social distancing, washing of hands at regular intervals, etc. This is being followed by majority of the people, but many do not follow which is a threat and the virus spreads because of them only. The services of Doctors, Nurses, hospital staff, Ambulance drivers, Corporation cleaning staff and all other related people are commendable and very well appreciated.

Now, release of lock down is starting in many states and in Tamil Nadu also with some restrictions: wearing mask is compulsory when one steps out of the house, all shops are open but only between 06.00 am to 06.00 pm, restaurants are allowed to open but only for takeaways, educational institutions are closed but online classes are encouraged, factories and business establishments are allowed to open with minimum staff, etc. All out efforts to recover the economy by both central and state governments. Tamil Nadu has signed about 25 MOUs and attracted about Rs.15,000 crores worth investments to the state thus generating more than 20,000 jobs. It is the only state to do this during this troubled period.

Thus, economy is limping back to normalcy and it will take some time to fully recover. Everyone must support the efforts of the governments in this regard, so that India will get a decent place in the world economy.

Going forward

This year is going to end in a couple of days. Year, Month, Day are all measurements and indication of the  time. Time never waits for anybody, it keeps on going and moving on its own way. The time is given to everyone equally. It is how people use it and take it forward is important.

It reminds me of a book titled "Jonathan Livingston Seagull - a story" by Richard Bach now. This book was referred to me by Mr. Kaushik, my friend and ex-colleague. Presently, he is a Risk Adviser and a Consultant. This is a very good book and everyone must read it. Like the hero Seagull, which is outcast for its trying and going against the crowd mentality, one must try, try, keep on trying and go to the next level in life.

It is time to make New Year Wish as we make every year !!! and I do not know how many people really try hard to make it happen !!! But, it is always nice to think about the bright future which everyone would love to enjoy !!!

I Wish All My Friends and Relatives and their Family and the one who reads this blog now a Very Happy and Prosperous New Year and May All Their Wishes Come True Very Soon !!!

Coming to my wish, among other things, I wish and hope GOD gives me the strength and ability to go for  long drives to visit the touristic/historic/untouched places in Tamilnadu to start with and expand to other places also !!! Let me see !!!

I thought it would be appropriate to mention few verses from Bhaja Govindam by Adi Sankaracharya about the passing of the time & uncertainty of life and the total surrender to the Divine for crossing this life.

Some quotes from Adi Sankaracharya's Bhaja Govindam:

Punarapi Rajani, punarapi divasa                              Again and again this dark nights
Punarapi paksha, punarapi maasa                              Again and again this luster full days
Punarapyayanam, punarapi varsham                         Again and again these months and years
Tadapi na munjityasaamarsham.                                But pride and desire never leaves you forever.

Dhinamapi rajani, sayam pratha                                Daily comes the night, evening and morning
Sisira vasanthou punarayatha                                    The autumn and spring comes again and again
Kala kreedathi gachat yayu                                        every year, Time forever plays with life,
Sthadapi na munjathyasa vayu                                   But desire does not desert this body forever.

Punarapi jananam punarapi maranam                       Again and again one is born And again and again
Punarapi janani jatare sayanam                                 one dies, And again and again one sleeps in the
Iha samsaare khalu dusthare,                                     mother's womb, Help me to cross, This limitless
Krupayaa pare pahi murare.                                      sea of Life, which is uncrossable, my LORD.

AIIMS and Madurai

At last Madurai is getting AIIMS. Thanks to the pressure from the Supreme Court. It was a much awaited one and will be beneficial to all people of South India. They will get high class medical treatment at nil or very nominal price. There will be a medical college also affiliated to that.

But the advantages Madurai as a city will get are  tremendous. The city will grow many fold by way of the growth in other industries. The industries which will benefit are hotel industry, travels and transportation, cabs and auto service, PG accommodation for doctors and other employees working in the hospital, laundry service, and what not. Rental and real estate value of the nearby areas will go up.

Madurai to receive so many things and will grow like anything. Investment of Rs.1,264 crores is really a very huge amount. Allied industries will also grow. Airport will get a face lift. Already modernization of one of the bus stands at the heart of the city has started which will be completed in 18 months. However, it is a much awaited development for Madurai.

When do they take the turn

Every time I cross, the Police Training ground near Avadi, I used to wonder about the kind of training they are given whatever be the climate or the season. They are given very hard and stern training on the ground since morning to whatever the time I do not know. I have also read about the police training in magazines and movies. They all might have been trained for good governance, service to the society, etc., etc. Further, I also believe that nobody joins police with an objective of indulging in anti social activities.

But, I surprise, when do they take the turn and what makes them to take the way to corruption, bribery, taking the power in their hands, indulging in scandals, harassment, atrocity, etc. Even the so called genuine police officials would have taken the power in their hands at times. Every policeman irrespective of the grade, they turn to this dark side at least once in their career.

When and how they turn to this darker side???   Peer / Top Pressure, society, family or is it the power which is given to them, That unknown turning point - where and when does it start ??? Million dollar question !!!

Shifted the car

I shifted my car from Bangalore both physically as well as spiritually. By spiritually,  I meant change of registration number also !!!

It was a very long journey. It started off with obtaining No Objection Certificate from the Office of the Commissioner of Police at Bangalore. There was a good reception at CP office and I got it within no time. I gave all papers at RTO - KA05 - at Jayanagar for getting an NOC from them. That is the basic document for transfer of the vehicle from KA05 to TN12,  the target RTO i.e., Poonamalee.

There is a long list of documents which are to be submitted to TN12. Starting from NOC from the Office of the Commissioner of Police - Chennai to taking a photograph of the car in front of the RTO office. Yes, you need to take a photograph of the car showing the owner and the number plate in front of the RTO office. It seems that is the proof that the car has come to Chennai! There are other documents like, Proof of address, Proof of identity, Aadhar, Affidavit from a notary public, copy of the purchase invoice of the car for calculating the Road Tax, et all. oophs, there are so many documents, you will be frustrated. Then you need to patiently follow up with the RTO office in the intervals of days, weeks and months. Finally, one day they asked me to collect the RC book. It is not a smart card, but a big computer printout. Again, it is an example of the primitive stage of traffic system in Tamilnadu.

Now comes the refund of the proportional Road Tax which was paid at Bangalore KA05. Again, application to KA05, follow up and finally I got the refund order from KA05 - Jayanagar RTO.

I must mention about the kind of co-operation and the support I received from the Jayanagar RTO office. The Personal Secretary (PS) to the RTO at Jayanagar was very, very supportive. She used to take the details and call me up for any details, status of the application, etc. I used to speak in English and she will reply in Kannada. But the support she extended throughout from the initial stage to the refund stage was simply great. Another system which RTO in Bangalore follow is that for any application you submit, they will specify a date on or before that date your document will be ready viz., driving licence, change of address on RC book, etc. They are so prompt that before that that your job will be done.

It is worth mentioning about the support extended at the Office of the Commissioner of Police at both the places. At Chennai also they have a good system for public relations and without any hassles you can get the NOC from the Commissioner's office. RTO (TN12) - Poonamalle was also co-operative, but only problem is that the process was too lengthy.

Once I was speaking to one Commissioner of RTO at Bangalore. He was mentioning that, the Central Government is planning a system to integrate all RTO offices at all over the country. That time all problems in shifting, refund, modification of details, etc. will be simplified and done without any delay. It was some four years back he mentioned like this. I do not know when will it be implemented, it is like another GST. There it involved income to the government, so they showed interest in implementation. In the case of RTO, it is only a facilitating factor to the general public. So, nobody bothers about that. If that system is implemented, it will really be a boon to the vehicle owners particularly people in transferable job.

I learnt one thing in this process. If one wants to get things done without any involvement of the money i.e., under the table dealings, one has to follow the procedure, submit all required the documents and have patience with persistence follow up with the government office. Then you can get things done without any money. It is a lengthy process.

Traffic Control System

My observations about the traffic control system prevailing in Bangalore and Chennai as I have seen both.

Bangalore is a small city as compared to Chennai with inappropriate number of vehicles - both two and four wheeler s - to its area. But, it has a very good traffic control system. Most of the main traffic signals are equipped with CCTV cameras. If any vehicle deviates the traffic rules like jumping the signals, etc, those vehicles are monitored and sent a penalty letter to the address of the vehicle owner. He can pay the penalty online also. Otherwise, if the same vehicle is caught for any traffic violation in future, the old dues will also be collected from the owner. Further, all traffic police at the signals are provided with a digital camera. If any vehicle deviates the rules and escapes the police, they take a photo of the vehicle and upload on their website with a penalty to the owner. Such was the traffic system in place at Bangalore. There is a penalty for lane cutting from wrong side also. Wearing of helmet by both rider and the pillion rider and wearing of seat belts in car are implemented strictly here.

But the traffic jam in Bangalore city is being discussed critically in media and by public. One must realize that it is not because of the traffic system, but because of the inappropriate number of vehicles on the road. Government is also trying to take various measures to control the traffic. If people also avoid using their own vehicles and do car pooling or take public transport like bus, metro, etc this may come down drastically.

Chennai traffic system - you just cannot compare Chennai with Bangalore in this regard. There is no traffic control system in Chennai. Cameras are installed at road junctions for namesake only and not for controlling the traffic as they are meant to be. Recently also, they keep on installing hundreds and thousands of cameras at all traffic signals just to identify the culprits in case of any theft or murder happens. But this will be a postmortem only. It is very much doubtful, whether they will be using them for the very purpose of traffic control, to identify the traffic violators and to take proactive actions against them for which they are installed. Chennai traffic controlling system is at a very primitive stage if you compare it with Bangalore.

It is worth to mention about the attitude of the Chennai public on the road also. I can surely say that almost 95% of the people do not follow traffic rules. Yes. It is a very sad truth and I am very much frustrated seeing people who do not follow traffic rules. I bet, go to any traffic signal in Chennai and you can see there will be some kind of violation at all signals and at all times. They do all kinds of possible traffic violations. They do not want to wait for a few seconds more for the traffic signal to turn green. No indicator - nobody cares to give indication while taking a turn, lane cutting from wrong direction is another common violation. Most of the car drivers do not wear seat belts.

They think that traffic violation is their birth right. Even if others point out their mistake they take a fight with them.

Recently, there was a big hue and cry for making it compulsory to wear helmet. People along with all political parties made it a big problem against implementation of wearing helmets. This is for their own safety and if they are not following how to make them realize.

There must be severe punishments for traffic violators and implemented strictly. But, there is a problem with police also. Some traffic police do not implement the traffic rules strictly and do not impose penalty on the people who deviate the traffic rules. They simply do not care or just leave them after taking some money. The general public come out with some money earmarked for bribing the police and the police also take money and leave the people.

The general public must understand the importance of the traffic rules and realize that they are implemented for their own safety and follow them diligently. Without the cooperation of the general public no rule can be implemented. The government must also educate the public on the importance of traffic rules and the consequences of not following them. They must also understand the difficulties of the public before implementation of the rules and come with realistic and practical solution to all of their problems and NO BRIBES.

Self discipline (by both public and police) is the only solution to make the system strong.

My love for French langauage

I had a liking for the French language from my college days itself. I had been longing to learn this International language which is spoken in many countries. When I was working in Madurai during 2003, I found that there was a Chapter of Alliance Francais at American College, Madurai. I happily joined the class as that was my dream to study at American College and completed level 1 i.e., A1.

After that life shunted me to different places and I came to Chennai. I wanted to restart my French again in the year 2018 after a gap of 15 years. So, I approached Alliance Francaise of Madras at Nungambakkam. I had forgotten most of my French whatever I had learnt in Madurai. I remembered  only few things in French, so I could not join the next level directly. I had to restart from level one (A1) and did level two also (A2). This refers to Elementary. Next two levels are B1 and B2 which refer to Intermediate or Independent. C1 and C2 refer to Experienced levels. There are group activities, role plays, presentations and many things to make the students speak in French. The CDs supplied along with the books also help to understand the spoken French.

The professors at AF-Madras are too good. They have good command over the language. They are very well trained to teach the language. They speak French as if it is their mother tongue and conduct the class also in French. To learn a language one must think in that language. Grammar, Vocabulary and Practice are the three important things to learn a language.

The AF-Madras campus at Nungambakkam has all modern facilities. All class rooms are air conditioned and equipped with smart boards with wi-fi connectivity. There is a big auditorium, a Library with lot of books and CDs and a canteen too.  Students are provided with the text and work books of the level they join and access to the library and can borrow upto 4 books at a time.

I miss the campus and wish I revisit for the next level soon.

My new poem.

Friend

If you were sad, I will be there to console you.
If you were sick, I will be there to take care of you.
If you were crying, I will wipe off your tears.
If you were down, I will be there to lift you up.
If you were happy, I will be the reason for that.
If we were together, we shall move the world.

This poem was written at our French Class at Alliance Francais as a group activity. The English lyrics was given by me and translated in French by my team mates.

This poem can be referred to Spouse also. So I am dedicating this to my wife on our Silver Jubilee Wedding Anniversary ( 10 th December, 2018 ).

French class ????????    I will write about that soon.....

Horse may fly...

Once there was a King. He had a weird idea. He wanted his horse to fly so that he could go to any place he wanted to go in no time. So he made an announcement, saying whoever made his horse to fly would get gold and many other compliments. But if they can't make it fly would lose theirs head. Many people came greedy about the prize, and lost their head. One day a wise person came and said that he could make the horse fly with some conditions. The King should give half of the announced prize money now itself and two years of time to give flying practice to the horse. The King also agreed and gave huge money and gold to him. He took all that money and gold, but not bothered to give any practice to the horse to make it fly. People came and asked him, if he wanted to lose his head at the end of the given time period. He replied, 'I know and everyone knows that this is foolish (making horse fly), but now I am enjoying my life with the foolish King's money. Nobody knows what will happen at the end of two years; for that matter even tomorrow - I may die, King may die, He may realize that the horse will not fly and change his mind, the horse may die, or who knows - the horse may even fly also. So, I am enjoying my today...'. This was the answer given by him to everyone.

Securities - Shares

Many people say that share market is a very risky place and one can only lose money in it and not gain anything, et al. But, there is a difference between trading and investing. If one invests money in the share market, there will not be any loss provided the money is invested in the shares after proper analysis. In 'Day Trading' i.e., buying and selling on the same day, one tend to lose more than gain. Further, the profit will also be not much, if any. Sometimes, the Share broker may earn more in brokerage than the actual profit of a Day Trader. So it is always advisable to invest in the share market rather than trading. One should keep a portfolio rather than investing all his/her money in one or two scrips. One should not keep all eggs in one basket. SIP in stocks buying is also advisable. One can buy shares in small quantity in regular intervals which will help in price averaging.

One should study the financial health of the company thoroughly and then invest in the scrip. One can go from micro level to macro or macro to micro while doing the analysis. Global economic/political conditions, national level analysis, industry performance, scanning the target company for all aspects starting from its management to financial health may be studied in Macro to Micro level analysis and vice versa in case of Micro to Macro. After the analysis is done and the investment is made, one should not get panicky about the minor ups and downs of the share price. A labour unrest and the temporary closure of a manufacturing unit of a company may also lead to the beating of share price of a company. Example, closure of one of the units of Hero Motors (in 2013 - I think it was its Haridwar unit) when their share price was around Rs.1,500/- and the share price was beaten in the market and now you know where are the share prices of Hero Motors. I suggested this to one of my friends at that time. He came back after some time and told me that he made investment in Hero and was happy about its appreciation. His investments would have made him a HERO !!!

Look around everywhere before you Leap.

Two Lines

There was a old Tamil movie directed by the legendary director late Mr.K.Balachandar who was awarded the prestigious Dada Saheb Palke award. Title of the movie is 'Iru Kodugal' meaning 'Two Lines'. At the beginning of the movie, hero draws a line and asks everyone in the family to make it small without erasing it, for which nobody has a clue. The heroine comes and draws a bigger line parallel to it and the hero's line becomes small.

This is what is happening in the society also now a days, particularly by the politicians. Create a bigger issue so that  the earlier problem/scam is diverted. The problem is forgotten and everyone will be busy with the new one. To hide a problem or ones mistake, create a new one and everyone will forget the earlier one and it goes on.

However, this can be taken positively. You achieve something and make it small with the next achievement. If one starts with buying a two wheeler, the next one should be a four wheeler. After a basic model of a four wheeler, the next target should be a high end vehicle.

It can be applied in a corporate environment also. Every year the target achievement should grow, but not go down. Make the last year target achievement small by achieving more in the current year. This year achievement should become minuscule when you compare with what your are going to achieve in the next year.

Focus on growth, and make the growth grow........

PPF

There are many avenues for investments which gives tax saving also.

The foremost among all which I would suggest is Public Provident Fund (PPF) because of its least risk and safety.

Every salaried person should have this; not only for his/her tax benefit, but also for future saving. This account is opened by all public sector banks and some private banks also. One can deposit a minimum of Rs.500/- and maximum of Rs.1.50 lakhs and get tax benefit under Income Tax Act - Section 80C. This can be opened not only by the salaried persons but also by any citizen of India as a saving measure. The unique feature of this account is that no court can attach the money deposited in this account. The duration of the account is 15 years which can be extended by a block of five years. One can withdraw some portion of the savings after five years of opening the account. The withdrawal amount is exempted from tax also. The rate of interest is decided every year by the Government of India. The rate of interest may be less, but considering the tax benefit and other advantages, this investments tops in the list of investments one must have.

One must ensure to deposit the amount on or before 5th of the month to get the benefit of interest computation in same month, otherwise it will be considered in the next month only.

First spending of the month must be saving.

Save before Spending.

Communicate.........

Communication is nothing but transfer of thoughts from one person to another person. Transfer of thoughts can happen in both verbal and non-verbal modes. One should be clear in what one wants to communicate. Be clear in thoughts before communicating itself. Timing and the way of communicating are also play a vital role in successful communication. Non verbal communication is by way of signals, symbols, body language, posture, etc. Body language is very important in one to one communication.

One can become a better communicator with clear thoughts, choosing the right mode, tone, volume and body language.

Communicate when you must.

Problems ????????

My next belief is that " there are more than two solutions for any problem ".

Yes, there exist more than two solutions for any problem you face. It can be - personal, official, relationship, anything, anything, just anything... sit and analyse the problem to find out the root cause of it. You will definitely get more solutions coming to your mind.

One simple example, I had encountered yesterday. The French teacher of my younger daughter forgot to give back her French book after referring to it for something. It was kept in the class and today she had French test. What to do, getting tensed, scolding, fretting and fuming ????? for not getting the book from school.......how to solve the problem.... the solutions could be, contacting her classmate to get the pages on whatsapp, go to their house to get the pages photocopied, refer to internet for the book and the portions, refer to the French books of mine and my elder daughter for the test topics ( the portion was simple ' how to greet a person when you meet' ). See, there were many possible solutions for this problem. Finally, we chose the book and internet options to solve this. My daughter was confident after reading the books, referring to the internet and she did well in the exam.

This is applicable to any problem you face under any situation. Your immediate action should be not to get panicky. Sit in a peaceful mind and visualize the problem, its consequences and possible solutions. Find out the root cause of the problem, analyse it thoroughly, check the consequences, and you will get flow of solutions for the problem.

Now, it is up to you to choose the
right solution / decision
which will be more appropriate to you.

My Blog Name

I like this caption ' Anything under the Sun is possible On this Earth'.

I came across this when I was doing my college. That time the Upper House of the Legislative Assembly was alive to elect Members of the Legislative Council ( MLCs ). There was a constituency for graduates and representative for them also. There was a contestant for this 'Graduates Constituency'. He was an industrialist, I do not remember his name. He had spent a lot on pamphlets, other materials and campaigning on explaining about his qualifications, his promises, what all he will do if he was elected, and all. I thought he would be elected, as I believed that he was well qualified and a genuine person. But finally, he lost rather got defeated in the elections. After all, he could not compete with his strong opponents backed by political parties. I think the candidate supported by AIADMK won. That was the time late Mr.MGR was the Chief Minister of Tamilnadu.

Now a small deviation from this topic:

About the charisma of Mr. MGR and how it had an influence on the common people of Tamilnadu. There was an election held for Madurai Corporation to elect Municipal Councillors ( MC ). In our ward, candidates from  AIADMK, DMK and Congress ( I ) parties were contesting apart from some independents. There was a strong ground work by Congress cadre and everyone thought that the Congress candidate would win. DMK had less support, so they were lagging behind. But, there was literally no work by AIADMK candidate and he was totally dependent on Mr.MGR's visit. The day also came.......One fine evening....... just two days before the elections, Mr. MGR also came........for a full round in the ward showing his two fingers representing the symbol ' Two Leaves '.

You still want to know the results. AIADMK candidate won with a massive lead !!!!

Coming back to our topic, I picked up this caption from the election campaign of that candidate from Graduates Constituency and still feel and believe that,

"ANYTHING UNDER THE SUN IS POSSIBLE ON THIS EARTH"

provided you have proper planning, complete focus, dedication,.... in place...........
